We Are Perishing For The Want Of Wonder
Monday, March 1, 2010 at 12:26PM I heard this amazing little quote (and the other half of it) on a hilariously funny video I watched this morning. As I began to watch I was reminded of the story of the blind men and the elephant. As each blind man approached the elephant, he came in contact with a different part of the elephant. One man mistook the leg for a tree, another one thought the trunk was a snake, and so on.
You have probably heard the saying that there is no absolute truth. If you ask several people to describe an event, you will get a different perspective of what happened and what was significant to each person. Have you listened to a person describe an event, with their spouse listening in? It is very unlikely that they will be allowed to tell the story without the spouse “adding their bit”. Guilty!
If you are in any business where you market, sell or have a brand, think
about your perspective. Take your product, brand or target market and examine every angle to see how you can create value in a unique way. Don't be afraid to use humor, exaggeration, or an unusual perspective or angle on a benefit to draw attention to what you have to offer. This can be particularly useful in a headline to create curiosity and entice the reader to see what comes next.
And to have a good laugh, check out this video on the fabulous TED site.
Have a hilariously wonderful day.
